If you wanted to design a perfect place to live, Palm Beach (Gold Coast, Australia) would be in the running. Long sandy beaches, warm weather (and water), and world-class surfing (okay… body surfing for me)—all filled with walkers, runners, kids learning to surf, and an unmistakable positive energy.
We originally planned this trip to see our friends in 2022, but COVID had other plans. Family, work, and other events delayed the trip until 2026. We had three goals, in order, to spend time with our friends, dive the Great Barrier Reef, and hike Milford’s Track in New Zealand!
Our friends’ place—truly incredible—sits right on the beach with sweeping views north to Burleigh Head National Park, across from Tallebudgera Creek, and just under three miles south to Currumbin Rock.
A short walk along the beach path brings you to Tallebudgera Creek, where crystal-clear water meets the ocean—creating a calm, scenic “natural playground.” Perfect for swimming, kayaking, paddleboarding, or just relaxing.
Each morning, in a modest attempt to prepare for our Milford Track adventure in New Zealand, we made the climb to the top of Burleigh Head National Park. The short coastal walk ends at Tumgun Lookout—one of the best panoramic views on the Gold Coast.
